Today, the holiday decorations officially go up at Disneyland. From now until the New Year, the whole park will be festooned with lights and garlands and bows and ornaments, all in a style that is thematically appropriate to the area...except for Tomorrowland. For some reason, the Imagineers have never seen fit to give the world fo the future its own holiday overlay. To the best of my knowledge, this pattern holds up at the other Magic Kingdom parks. And for all we know, there are good reasons. Maybe it's too difficult to try and predict what form the holidays will take in the future. Maybe fir boughs and candles clash too much with the chrome and neon. Maybe Christmas carols sound too weird remixed for for the synthetic instruments favored by the area music loops.

But maybe they just haven't thought much about it. Either way, the field is open for us Armchair Imagineers to put our heads together and come up with a solution to Tomorrowland's holiday bareness.

It should be noted that this is not a contest, just a jumping-off point to get the creative juices flowing in time for the holidays. Feel free to post ideas in the comments section of this Journal, or to develop them as Deviations and submit them by the normal method. Go ahead and plan for whichever version of Tomorrowland you are most familiar with, or even FutureWorld at Epcot.

Here are some off-the-cuff ideas to get us started:

* A "Christmas tree" made of neon tubing
* LED Christmas lights strung along the architectural edges of the buildings
* Mannheim Steamroller's Christmas music in the area loop
* Santa in a spacesuit
* Otherworldly snow/ice formations
